We
had a great visit from the Cleveland Heights Fire Department on Friday, October
16th.
Three
local fire fighters were able to talk to the children about fire safety and
highlight some important things to remember. They discussed calling 911 in case
of emergency. The kids also learned to crawl and stay low to the ground in
smoke filled rooms. Finally, we practiced putting out fire with "stop,
drop, and roll."
Fire
fighter Lisa Moore, showed the kids up close what a fire fighting suit looks
and sounds like. She started getting dressed in her safety gear explaining each
piece of equipment and why the fire fighters need them. The kids loved touching
the suit as they took turns going up close and feeling the air for mask
breathing. Hopefully, if they ever see a firefighter in action they will know
what to expect.
The
kids favorite part of the day was climbing through the huge fire truck at the
end of the presentation. They saw the hoses and equipment from the perspective
of the fire fighters. They looked so thrilled riding in the truck, and were
hard to coax back out!
All
in all, it was a great day!
