Parent Educational Meeting

Mid-Winter Meeting at FCCNS
Wednesday February 6th at 6:45pm

We are pleased to announce that Courtney Evenchik of the Who's the Boss? Parenting Education Center will be our speaker.
Ms. Evenchik was educated at The Ohio State University (BS, MA) in the specialty of school psychology. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, a member of the National Association of School Psychologists, and has been an instructor in American Sign Language with a focus on babies.  Ms. Evenchik is also a parent educator and an acclaimed leader of parenting workshops at Who's The Boss? Parenting Education Center and Bellefaire JCB.  She is the mother of four children.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Dentist and Naturalist Visit

We have been busy at school, can you tell I am trying to keep up?!  Our enrichment committee and has been bringing in lots of great people to the school to meet with all the classes.  Recently we had a dentist and a naturalist!

Second Session of EDE

Our second session of EDE (Extended Day Enrichment) concluded right before the holiday break.  So many fun scientific and creative projects were done by all the students.  Some of the fun topics they explored this time were magnets, patterns, animals in winter, and making gingerbread cookies which involved a little math and literacy activities.

Welcome to back to school!  Great to see all the kids back in their classrooms and having lots of fun.

Musician Visit

The Jones Trio came to our school and taught each classroom all out their instruments.  They showed the students how they are different in size and sound.  The kids absolutely loved it! Thank you so much to the Jones Trio for your time and energy at our school.

Dinosaur Dig with the Natural History Museum

As you can see the kids were completely absorbed in dinosaurs when the
Natural History Museum spent the day with them.

Apple Picking

Thanks to one of our awesome parents (RACHEL) for organizing a trip to Eddy's Fruit farm on one of our days off from school.  It was a chilly morning but we all had a great time learning about the farm, picking apples and eating apples.  Thank you Sarah Roberts for all the great photos!

It's been a long road to get to this point, but we finally have t-shirts printed! Halloween!  What an exciting day with lots of crafts, candy and play!

Extended Day Enrichment

For the last four weeks students got to participate in Extended Day Enrichment (EDE). This is a extra program offered to our students from 11:30 -2:00pm each Thursday if they would like to join.  Students have done so many amazing things it is hard to fit everything in!
One week they talked about trees and what they need and how chlorophyll works.  Then this lead to a nature walk with collecting leaves and sorting them and and making patterns.  Another week was dedicated to monsters and counting their eyes and using shapes to create their own monsters.  The students also got to create a "fizzy monster head" by inflating balloons with a chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda.  They also sorted skittles and painted with them. They carved pumpkins and made Halloween slime which is always a favorite by all.  Thank you so much to our two amazing EDE teachers Miss Carrie and Miss Simone.  The time and energy they put into this class is so evident by the kids faces when they coming running out of class to share all their new experiences with their parents.

Pumpkin Carving

Naturalist Visits

All three classes got to learn about reptiles and see and touch two turtles!

Scholastic Book Sale

Our first Scholastic book drive of the year is open! Let's get our little ones some Halloween themed books for home and earn some free books for our school!  Orders can be placed at Scholastic.com with our class code K29Y8. If you have any questions please contact Mara in the 3/4s class.

FCCNS Returning and New Member Coffee/Playdate

Welcome to the Fairmount Cooperative Nursery School!  Every year we like to hold a coffee playdate prior to the start of the school year so families can begin to get acquainted with each other.  We would love to see your family there.  The details are below:

Date:  August 24th, 2012

Time:  9:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

Location:  The pre-school playground at the Fairmount Presbyterian Church
(located in the back of the parking lot). 

If it is raining, we will hold the coffee in the large muscle room located in the
basement of the church.

End of the School Year Picnic

We had a beautiful day to enjoy our last day of school together at Cumberland Park. Thanks to the Hospitality Committee for holding such a great event! Have a great summer everyone!
