Today was the last day of EDE for this first session. The children made Halloween slime, ghost balloons, and skittle paint!

Visit from Firefighter Tom

The children had a visit from Firefighter Tom today to teach them about fire safety and what firefighters do to serve our community.

Extended Day Enchrichment

The first session of Extended Day Enchrichment with Mrs. Carrie is underway.  The first week the little scientists learned about why leaves change color in the fall.  The big word of the day was "chlorophyll" and the children did a great job remembering it!  They also talked about how different trees make different shaped leaves.  While on their leaf collecting walk the children observed the different colors and different shapes of the leaves.  They also examined the differences between the leaves on the ground and the leaves still in the trees.  They sorted their leaves and had fun using them for painting and looking at them more closely with magnifying glasses.

The second week the children studies apples.  Some of the things they learned about include the parts of the apple and how an apple grows from a seed to an apple tree. They even got to make some yummy apple treats!

Bike-A-Thon

For our first fundraiser and potluck of the year, FCCNS families gathered at Cumberland Park for a Bike-A-Thon Treasure Trail.  Children rode bikes, tricycles, and scooters around the fun trail while finding surprises along the way.  Families and friends sponsored our little riders to help raise money for our school.  After the Bike-A-Thon, everyone socialized and played on the playground while enjoying some delicious food.  We have a great community here at Fairmount Co-Op!

Patterson's Farm Fun Fest Outing

Several FCCNS families met up at Patterson's Farm this week to enjoy the Family Fun Fest!

Day at Menchie's

Next week is our school's day at Menchie's! For everyone who mentions "Fairmount co-op preschool fundraiser" at the register when they pay, or presents this flyer, the co-op will get 20% of everything spent, between 2pm and 9pm on Tuesday of next week, Sept. 30th.  Plan on taking your family and telling everyone you know to go have some frozen yogurt!

Visit from a Naturalist

Today we had a Naturalist come visit and teach us about different animals and their native habitats.  The children loved getting to decide whether their creatures live in the water, meadow, or forest.

Playground Cleanup

A HUGE thank you to the many families who worked so hard to clean up our playground yesterday.  We spread new gravel, mulch, and wood chips and all the toys got a thorough cleaning.  Everyone had a great time and the playground looks fantastic!

FCCNS Returning and New Member Coffee/Playdate

Welcome to the Fairmount Cooperative Nursery School!  Every year we like to hold a coffee playdate prior to the start of the school year so families can begin to get acquainted with each other.  We would love to see your family there.  The details are below:

Date:  Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

Time:  9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.

Location:  The pre-school playground at the Fairmount Presbyterian Church 
(located in the back of the parking lot). 

If it is raining, we will hold the coffee in the large muscle room located in the
basement of the church.   

Summer Camp

The preschoolers had a fun-filled week at this year's summer camp.  Everyone enjoyed doing crafts and games, outdoor play, field trips to PetSmart, Kiddie Park, Bexley Park, and Zagara's Marketplace, and much more. Thank you to our wonderful teachers for a great week of camp!

Creative Movement!

Our school is so fortunate to have a certified dance instructor teach our weekly Creative Movement class. During Creative Movement, Erica Steinweg joyfully leads the students through song as they dance, jump, leap, spin, and stretch.
